Do you know what the top 3 most ACIDIC sodas on today’s market are? I’m sure there are plenty of favorites out there that come close, but according to a study by the Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Dental Medicine, the top three most acidic soft drinks available today are as follows:
1. RC Cola (pH of 2.387)
2. Cherry Coke (pH of 2.522)
3. Coke (pH of 2.525)
Diet sodas are also just as bad for your oral health as regular, sugared sodas. While non-cola beverages are indeed less acidic than colas, they can be especially damaging to teeth since they incorporate citric acid (vs. the typical phosphoric acid found in most other sodas). Similarly, though, this type of acid is just (if not more) corrosive to tooth enamel.
One study found that within just three minutes of drinking a cola beverage, the potential for dental erosion becomes 10 times higher than that of drinking fruit juice.
