TITLE:  Oral Health Considerations during Cancer Treatment

ABSTRACT: A detailed overview of everything dental professionals need to know about treating patients who have been diagnosed with some type of cancer, and are undergoing therapy that may adversely affect the state of their oral health. From identifying who these patients are to the many common (and uncommon) side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, this course gives a first-hand explanation of what to expect and what to look out for when treating these patients from the stage of diagnosis to total recovery.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Learn how to identify patients undergoing cancer treatment who do not indicate so in their medical history.
  2. Understand what side effects may emerge in the oral cavity while undergoing radiation and chemotherapy.
  3. Learn how to help these patients manage their oral care while in cancer treatment as well as after recovery.
