COURSE SUMMARY
AUTHOR: Paul F. Bery, DDS
AUDIENCE: Dentists; Specialists
ABSTRACT: The decision between endodontics and implant therapy can be difficult because the goals for both are the same: restore the patients’ dentition. Over the last few years, the dental industry has leaned towards implants in most cases, but before that decision can be made, many factors must be considered. This course will review these decision making factors to help show how specific situations may call for one procedure over another.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Evaluate the integrity of the tooth and periodontal tissues
- Evaluate the feasibility of retreatment and prognosis; also how the original treatment was done, the anatomy was treated, what the level of ability was to obtain patency, as well as the overall ability to address the root canal system itself.
- Considering endodontic therapy for the teeth to be extracted at a later date in order to preserve or regain the health of surrounding bone
